As Ex-Smokers all, I think that these odd little stories cause us to perk up our ears, maybe even go, Hun? Dana Reeve, the 44-year-old actress and chairwoman of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, was a nonsmoker, said foundation spokeswoman Maggie Goldberg. Her announcement came two days after the lung cancer death of ABC News anchor Peter Jennings, a smoker, at age 67. I think I read somewhere that 10% of all lung cancers are in people who never smoked. I have an acquaintance who never smoked and is going through treatment right now for lung cancer. I had a friend die of lung cancer last year, but he had been a smoker. So sad . Debbie

How dreadful. It was Peter Jennings untimely demise that pushed me over the edge into this quit. How awful for Mrs. Superman.

Hi all, I read articles about both these cases of lung cancer on health.dailynewscentral.com that really made me think. With Peter Jennings, he had quit and been a non-smoker for 20 years!!! Don't they say that it takes 10 or 15 years for a smokers' lungs to heal?? Anyways, he started again after 2001, which means after 5 years of smoking he died from lung cancer. This scared me. Apparently, according the article I read, ex-smokers make up 40 to 50% of new lung cancer cases. It also said that smokers/ex-smokers make up 80% of those diagnosed with lung cancer. It's very sad. My Father-In-Law got lung cancer, a few years after they quit. They smoked one after another for as long as I can remember, and swore it had nothing to do with cancer and that there were no health difficulties associated with smoking. He got diagnosed in February and passed away 2 months later. My biggest fear is that DH will get it too. With hope and heart, Kathleen
