I don't know if it's ever possible to be completely American if you immigrated here. I am Canadian, and moved to the US 5+ years ago, but I still haven't caught on to some of the nuances of being an American. I still follow the Toronto Maple Leafs and not the LA kings. I wanted Canada to win (at hockey) during the Olympics, I am smoking a Canadian cigarette, I wish I could get a decent Canadian beer in our local supermarket, and I would kill to have just one Canadian Tire store in Southern California. I mess up all the holidays (when is thanksgiving anyway?), I have a real problem with the medical system and the whole privacy thing here, but in general I LOVE this country. If I, who grew up just 35 miles accross Lake Ontario from the US border, have problems assimilating to American life, I can't imagine what people that come here from the middle east must go through. I think them sticking together is more of a defence mechanism than an unwillingness to be *real* Americans. I can send you some Canadian Tire money if you would like. I hear that the further south in the U.S. you go, the easier it is to pawn it off as real Canadian $$$. (j/k) Can you get Smarties, Coffee Crisp and Cadbury's Crunchie down there now? And you follow the LEAF's and not Les Canadiens? Bastard.

You cannot teach a man anything ; you can only help him find it within himself.
