<snip I'd just like to say that for the most part I am all for legalizing Marijuana.  Its legality has no effect on me, since I don't smoke and wouldn't plan to  even  if pot did become legal. But I do have to disagree that pot is less  harmful than tobacco. Sure, the number of deaths attributed to cigarettes is  much much greater, but I believe that this is because A) Tobacco is much much  easier to get a hold of. (and more legal). Tobacco is cheaper than pot. It  is my belief that if pot became available to the public legally, that it would  replace cigarettes as the *smoke of choice*, and thus we would begin to see a  comparable number of marijuana-related deaths in the future. But I don't see  why pot is illegal and tobacco is....to me, they have the same long term  effect. I say if you wanna smoke, tobacco, pot, whatever......go ahead, but  don't come back in 40 or 50 years and sue the government for legalizing it  because you have lung cancer or emphysema. Those arguments don't hold up when you consider that there has never been one - not one - death attributed to the use of pot. Heroin is wildly expensive and illegal. Thousands of people die from it. Pot has never caused one death as a result of smoking it. I think you missed the whole point of my post. What I meant was that the reason  marijuana hasn't caused any deaths is due to its lack of availiability.  Cigarettes and other forms of tobacco usually cause problems for people who  smoke a couple packs a day every day for a given number of years. Not many  people smoke that much pot in a day. My point was that if pot were legal, and  sold as cigarettes are now, it would replace cigarettes as the preferred thing  to smoke, and eventually you'd have people smoking as much pot in a day as the  pack-a-day cigarrette people do tobacco. Eventually its gonna add up if people  smoke pot the way they smoke cigarettes, and 20 or 30 years from now your  gonna have just as many pot related lung problems as we do tobacco related  problems. The only reason no deaths have been attributed to pot is that for  the most part it is too expensive and too scarce to support a habit large  enough to cause cancer eventually. And who's to say that right now theres some  pot smoker with lung cancer who just says that it was regular cigarettes that  caused it? Could anyone say differently? No. Which brings me back to my  original point, which was that marijuana is not less dangerous than tobacco,  but its not more dangerous either, and therefore I have no problems with it being legalized.

and isn't pot a gateway drug?  i mean, how many people start by smoking  crack?  they start by toking up. So? A lot of people drink and smoke tobbaco before moving up to pot.....big  deal. Unfortuneately there are always gonna be screwups in our society. It  sucks, but thats the way it is. But I'm assuming that most people would use  the privilage of a legal high wisely, and not see the need to move on to  higher levels. Maybe thats just foolish optimism, but oh well.

it's just always been with me that i don't like.  same with pot.  i look at the negative effects of it. call me a pessimist.  i smoke, i don't necessarily enjoy it anymore.  in fact i wish i'd never started.  but quitting is a real bitch.  so what the fuck?  ah well.  we're at opposing ends and will never agree. although if the US did legalize pot i wouldn't have too much to say. after all i try to abide by the laws as best i can. i'm sorry, i didn't catch any of that. c ya. -john

My point was that if pot were legal, and  sold as cigarettes are now, it would replace cigarettes as the  preferred thing to smoke, and eventually you'd have people smoking  as much pot in a day as the pack-a-day cigarrette people do tobacco. This is incorrect, mainly because the levels it takes to get a high from either product go in different directions. Cigarrette smokers need to smoke more and more to maintain their high ; a regular pot smoker only needs a few hits to get to his or her happy place. I worked with a guy a few years ago who smoked pot every day; two big hits at lunch would last him the rest of the day. He also smoked cigarettes

Hmmm... I dunno about that. Can you imagine the outcry from all the smokers? And the government receives so much money from the tobacco companies, I can't see it happening. Even if pot kind of replaces tobacco on the market, there's no way one person could smoke as much pot as cigarettes. In fact, if pot becomes legal, the big tobacco companies will be the ones producing it. 20 Benson and Hedges Superskunk please . Hehehehe.         well, we'll just have to wait and see....  but the anti-tobacco sentiment in this country is certainly growing....  last wednsday i was in the smoking section of a restraunt and across the isle was the non-smoking section.  when i lit up, the woman in the non-smoking section became furious and demanded i put out my cigarette.  i politely informed her i was in the designated section but this proved to have no resolve.  i was temped to put the square out in her soda, but my good side got the best of me and i put the smoke out.

Cigarettes and other forms of tobacco usually cause problems for people who smoke a couple packs a day every day for a given number of years. Not many people smoke that much pot in a day I don't think anybody *could* smoke that much pot in one day!  A cigarette  every 20 minutes is much much more feasible than a joint every twenty  minutes...you could keep up with the cigs all day long every day, there is *no  way* that you could do it with pot...not unless you have a lot of time on your  hands and nothing to do with it except sleep and masturbate. ********************************* <HTML<A HREF= http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/2296/index.html The Unofficial Lilys Homepage</A, featuring articles, interviews, reviews,  discography, photos, album art, sound clips, and more....</HTML
