Honest, after 20+years of smoking 40+ cigarettes a day, I quit cold turkey last Friday. First, I have to admit I'm pretty surprised at how mild the withdrawl has been. Granted I'm getting lots of sleep which helps me through the edgier moments, and my wife's patience and gentleness have helped tremendously. Somehow I thought it was supposed to be much worse than this. I do find a few thoughts giving me anxiety: thoughts of driving anywhere (I sometimes catch myself staring off into the distance without a thought in my head, so getting behind the wheel when I might have such an episode doesn't seem very wise), the thought of going near a store and giving in to temptation, in fact, just about anything that causes stress is on my avoidance list. I trust this doesn't last. I'd hate to think my self-confidence has been nicotine-_base_d for all these years and now I have to start building confidence all over again. Any insights on what I can expect next would be appreciated. Wulf

Any insights on what I can expect next would be appreciated. Well everyone has their worst weeks and their magic weeks. My worst were weeks 6 and 7. It's like the nicotine demon kicked really hard before it died. And then after that I had my life back. I guess week 8 was my magic week. What helped to get through the eight weeks was to expect the worst. Horrible cravings etc. And then prepare myself for how I would deal with the cravings. If I expected the worst and things were worse then I was prepared, if not then I was pleasantly surprised. To battle the cravings during those two weeks I had a plan. I walked through the woods for two hours every morning. I found baths very relaxing so everytime I wanted a smoke I took a bath instead. Sometimes up to 10 a day. Also drank plenty of tea with milk and honey. Tea is very soothing. Signing up for a yoga class could help. Whatever rocks your boat. I also posted on this newsgroup everytime I wanted a cigarette. Sometimes 10 to 15 messages a day : ) Whatever it takes. Good luck and don't forget to post instead of smoke. Adrienne OF

Dear Wulf, I too have made this cataclysmic change for the better three weeks ago. Don't worry, when you drive, you won't space out
