Not to ask for a lecture ..but..  How long after one stops smoking is *any* benefit seen ?? Say,if one had smoked for over 50 years..what are the immediate and long term (considering,we're talking 70 years of age) benefits ? Considering there are  already irreversible effects of the smoking..  Anyone see what I'm trying to ask ?               thanks ..             This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Stopping smoking probably improves the blood quality within hours. I just scanned an article ( I wish I could remember where ) that said that for women over 40, there were definite, measurable health benefits from each of: Giving up smoking Walking for 30 minutes 4 times a week Cutting down on alcohol Irreversible effects can't be reversed, but you can exercise damage control. Yesterday would have been a better time to quit than today, but today is still a better time than tomorrow. Barry

The short answer, is YES. Your body _will_ thank you. Kate
